The Laguna Niguel Youth Committee met on October 4, 2018, beginning with the elections of Chairman Alyssa Siegel and Vice Chairman Ileana Avila for the 2018/2019 school year. The Committee proceeded to discuss “Songs for Seniors”, an inter-generational event proposed by Kyle Wade, and voted in favor of adding it to this year’s agenda. A subcommittee for the event was created as well as a communications subcommittee for all future events.
The meeting continued with a discussion about the upcoming Laguna Niguel Holiday Parade and the Committee’s mode of transportation. They decided on using both Surrey bikes and Segways during the parade. After that debate, the Committee discussed the success of the “Pizza with the Police” event of the previous year. They voted in favor of organizing a similar event on Thursday, January 31, and a subcommittee was established.
The meeting ended with comments from Mayor Gennawey who brought attention to the opioid epidemic in the United States and suggested the Youth Committee respond with a “Live Clean” theme for future events. Chairman Siegel requested that this topic be included on the agenda for next month. The meeting adjourned at 7:50pm and will meet again on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
