The Youth Committee met on September 1, 2016, and welcomed six new members. After introductions, the new members recited the oath of office which was led by City Clerk, Eileen Gomez. Ms. Gomez then reviewed the Ralph M. Brown Act with all Youth Committee members. We were educated about the new Community Center being built at Crown Valley Park and reviewed the Community Survey. We filled out the survey, which requested activity feedback for classes, workshops, and programs. We generated numerous ideas, such as activities that foster the Arts and activities relating to Junior Leadership, like Model UN or Debate Club. We then familiarized ourselves with our website; www.lnteens.org. Alexandra Shockley volunteered to oversee the website content, and gather data from committee members to update the newsflash, and Job/Volunteer opportunities for high school students. The next meeting will be October 6 2016, where we will elect a Chairman and Vice-Chairman who will run the meetings.
